Social service group gets GF approval afterall

Grand Forks city council has approved the long-proposed transition housing project just a week after appearing to put it on the back-burner.

After hearing from the Multi Agency Accommodation Group (MAAP) they decided to give it the go ahead.

That’s subject to public feedback and the group’s funds being available.

MAAP includes Habitat For Humanity, Boundary Emergency and Transition Housing Society (BETHS) and Whispers of Hope.

Jim Harrison speaks for the group who’ve been lining this up with council for the past three years.

He says they gave the new council the background at a special meeting Wednesday and they’ve made an informed decision.

The group successfully requested a ten year lease on the city-owned lot at 72nd and 1st.

They need that to secure about $200,000 in grants for the three transition units.

They will go above a new Restore facility Habitat For Humanity will build.
