Castlegar to run water service for forest fire attack

It’s the City of Castlegar to the rescue as the province needs a new water supply to fight potential forest fires in the region.

The Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resources has been filling its air tankers at the West Kootenay Airport with its own water line however it is is poor condition and not secure.

Here’s Director of Civic Works Chris Barlow with the staff recommendation Council passed this week.

The City will pay $50,000 to install a new connection to that system.

The Ministry will then pay back the City roughly $5,800 a year over the next 13 years.
