Nelson’s Police Chief is to contact the Solicitor-General’s office for an independent review of his officer numbers.
Wayne Holland is speaking after city council rejected his request for two new officers in their provisional budget.
He’s confident a review would highlight the current deficit in authorized strength and highlight how far the department has fallen behind.
Holland says if a review shows the NPD as the only exception in BC in terms of not seeing officer growth he will want council to answer why that is .
Two extra officers would cost about $225,000 a year.
Council says it’s prepared to discuss ways of easing police stresses in areas like admin.
