Anti-terror law demos

Local groups will be part of the growing movement against the Federal government’s anti-terrorism legislation Saturday.

A national day of protest is planned with critics saying Bill C-51 is too vague and gives sweeping powers of surveillance and authority to the Canadian Intelligence Agency.

They say privacy and freedom of speech are at stake.

The government says it gives the more powers to detain or restrict the movement of suspected terrorists.

Rallies are planned outside Nelson City Hall at noon and at Castlegar’s Spirit Square at 1pm.
