Controlled burn at Syringa Park

Crews have begun a controlled 10 hectare burn at Syringa Provincial Park near Castlegar.

The initiative is part of the Lower Arrow Lake Ecosystem Restoration Program and will last until March 31st weather permitting.

Here’s the Southeast Fire Centre’s Jordan Turner.

The controlled burn will take place near Tulip Creek.

The site has become overgrown in the absence of naturally occuring fires in recent decades.

Smoke may be visible to surrounding communities and heavy smoke may affect traffic on Deer Creek Forest Service Road.
