Seeking new base for Castlegar Alternate Program

The Kootenay Columbia school district says it’s important to get the alternate program in Castlegar into a new home base.

Chair of the board Darrel Ganzert is speaking following the public restaurant closure at the Old School Cafe on Friday.

Many of the students – who have anxiety issues – found the work there too stressful.

Some of them were staying at home and that’s not good for them or anyone.

The hope is to relocate the program into a space at the nearby On-line Learning Centre on 7th avenue.

Many in the community signed a petition calling for public consultation on the closure but Ganzert says it was necessary for the students.
