Nelson moving towards poverty strategy

The foundations for Nelson’s first poverty reduction strategy are being put in place.

Helen Lutz with the Social Planning Action Network (SPAN) says they have 30 trained Community Hosts.

They are engaging with the public to get a full understanding of the scope of the issues.

A poverty summit is planned for the spring.

The group then aims to fine-tune strategies.

These could include for example ways to encourage homeowners to rent out basement suites to students or create neighborhood hubs for equipment sharing like lawnmowers or snow blowers.
