Coroner labels local death “unwitnessed drowning”

The BC Coroner’s report into the unexplained drowning of a man near Kokanee Creek Provincial park last year has been released.

56 year old Paul Tayes – from the lower mainland- went missing after checking in for one night in early September.

He was reported missing and exhaustive searches in the area failed to find him.

His body showed up around the Sitkum Creek area a week later.

The coroner says Tayes was fully clothed, there were no injuries that would indicate foul play or trauma and toxicology tests revealed no relevant findings.

His family reported him to be happy, newly-retired and had never given any indication of suicidal thoughts.

The coroner is labelling the death an accidental unwitnessed drowning.
