Saturday bus service is starting for us this week but already there’s concern operational funding for it could dry up.
That’s because government has announced a total freeze on BC Transit’s operational budget for the next three years .
Lawrence Chernoff – the Chair of the West Kootenay Transit Committee – says with no cost-of-living increase on the cards that effectively means funding will go backwards.
He says local governments across BC will bring there concerns up at this years Union of BC Municipalities Convention.
The funding freeze will also impact plans to further expand our region’s bus service.
