Proposed Nelson medical clinic addressing noise, traffic, viewscape

Concerns continue to be addressed as plans are fine-tuned for a new medical clinic in Nelson.

This from the group of doctors behind the two storey facility that would go opposite Kootenay Lake Hospital.

The already narrow View Street poses traffic, parking and noise challenges.

Proponent Dr Andre Kirsten says the road will be widened , a side-walk built, and at least 37 parking stalls created … and possibly more.

A public hearing is set for May before council decides on allowing the facility on land which is currently zoned residential.

Kirsten says noise suppression is part of their plans and the height of the building would be ten feet lower than what is zoned for residential.

The city says they are working on including various covenants in any final plans that would detail what sort of air conditioning units can be used, as well as other noise suppression and viewscape mitigation such as buffer zones.
