RD to review Fire Service amidst call for Deputy Chief

There’s agreement the over-burdened RDCK Fire Chief needs help but the board of directors first wants a review before deciding on getting him a Deputy.

Chief Terry Swan says he’s put in well over a thousand volunteer hours as he tries to oversee the region’s volunteer fire departments and the Emergency Program.

He adds there’s an expectation from the Province that a Deputy Chief be in place.

Area H Director Walter Popoff says the RDCK will have an independent review of the service to ensure they’re spending taxpayer money wisely.

A full-time Deputy Fire Chief could cost close to $100,000 a year.

The review will cost up to $24,000.
