The Friends of Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society will hold its annual Kootenay Lake Summit Nov. 15 at the Prestige Lakeside Resort in Nelson.
The event, scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m., will bring together community members, organizations, lake users and stewards to discuss conservation and stewardship in the Kootenay Lake watershed, according to the society.
This year’s theme is Synergy: Collaboration in Conservation. The society said the theme focuses on the role partnerships can play in conservation and brings together people with different perspectives, knowledge, skills and experiences.
The summit will include opportunities for participants to learn about local stewardship initiatives, share ideas and discuss possible collaborations. Interactive activities will also give attendees a chance to talk about projects they are involved in and explore new ways of working together.
The event is expected to include a catered dinner, live music, an opening lakeside ceremony, a silent auction and a keynote address by Juliet Craig, a registered professional biologist and program director with the Kootenay Conservation Program.
The society said Craig will discuss her conservation work and the role collaboration can play in environmental initiatives.
Program co-ordinator Ezra Creasy said organizers are moving to a larger venue after last year’s summit at Harrop Hall sold out.
“The 2025 Kootenay Lake Summit at Harrop Hall was a sold-out success! That is why we are expanding this year with a larger venue capacity so more people can get involved in these important conversations about our cherished Kootenay Lake.”
The society said the summit will also give community members an opportunity to discuss their ideas, concerns and hopes for the future of Kootenay Lake.
Registration is open. Society members receive a 10 per cent discount on tickets and the organization said a limited number of reduced-price tickets are available.
