Balfour terminal sustains minor damage after being struck by MV Osprey

A Kootenay Lake ferry made contact with the Balfour terminal last month, denting part of the steel structure during a supervised training exercise.

According to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, the incident involved the MV Osprey 2000 which struct a terminal dolphin on July 20 while docking at Balfour.

The ministry said the contact caused a localized dent to the dolphin, which is a steel structure that forms part of the dock and helps guide vessels during docking.

The vessel was not damaged and there were no injuries, pollution or service disruptions.

Preliminary inspections found no signs of structural damage or impact to the dolphin’s function, but a structural assessment is underway to determine whether repairs are required.

The ministry said the incident was not required to be reported to federal authorities because there was no damage to the vessel, pollution or injuries.
