Slocan Valley RDCK candidate belatedly withdraws

One of the three candidates running for regional district director in the Slocan Valley doesn’t want you to vote for him.

Jae Hamilton announced on Facebook that he has decided to drop out of the race for Area H and support fellow candidate Will Parker.

“This wasn’t an easy call, but it’s a clear one,” he said. “Will has spent years building relationships across this valley and with RDCK — the kind of trust and groundwork that takes real time to earn.”

However, because Hamilton missed the deadline to withdraw, his name will still appear on the ballot.

He said his decision to throw his support behind Parker came following an all-candidates meeting.

“I got into this race late, on passion and on the encouragement of people I trust,” he said, adding that he still believes in everything he has campaigned on, including support for mental health and addiction recovery.

“What I’ve realized is that the fastest way to see those ideas become reality isn’t necessarily me sitting in the director’s chair — it’s making sure the strongest candidate gets there, and then rolling up my sleeves to help him do it.”

The third candidate is Kevin Shaw. Shaw and Parker will vie to replace Walter Popoff, who has served since 2008 but is not seeking re-election.
