RDCK talks today on NDCC grant/shared funding dispute

A special budget meeting of the RDCK board goes today regarding the Nelson and District Recreation Complex service.

There has been some discussions between the CAO and Nelson’s City Manager about a possible deal to resolve the thorny issue of the $184,000 grant Nelson withdrew.

That was to try to kick-start talks on a new shared funding model but it produced a strong reaction from partnering rural Areas E and F.

Nelson says it will re-instate that money into the NDCC reserve fund but will take it back again if no deal is reached by late 2016.

But Area F’s rural director has said he won’t negotiate with a hammer over his head.
