Incoming B.C. Premier Doerkson speaks with Carney, says they are “aligned” on economic development

B.C. premier-designate Lorne Doerkson says he had a productive virtual meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday.

In a social media post, Doerkson said the two were aligned on the need to attract investment, create jobs and strengthen the economy.

“We are aligned on the need to supercharge our economy, attract investment, and create good-paying jobs. British Columbia has an enormous role to play in driving Canada’s economic future, and we are ready to lead,” Doerkson said.

A readout of the meeting says the two agreed to work together to increase economic growth and create conditions to maximize private investment in natural gas and liquefied natural gas, or LNG.

It also says Doerkson committed to working with Ottawa on challenges including trade risks, as well as improving infrastructure and services in B.C.

The meeting came days after the B.C. Conservatives won a majority government in Saturday’s provincial election.
