Hospital employees rally in West Kootenay

Nelson, Castlegar, and Trail hosted rallies on the one year anniversary of the federal government’s $36 billion cut to provincial health transfer payments.

Approximately two dozen people outlasted the rain and stood outside the Queen City’s courthouse yesterday afternoon on the Hospital Employees Union’s final stop through the region.

Provincial executive Shelley Bridge says BC residents need to know the cuts will affect them.

Bridge says the cuts will result in British Columbians paying out of their own pockets for certain health care services.

The HEU suggests it will also result in 8,300 fewer care aide positions a year.
