Kinnaird principal praises students’ green initiatives

The principal of Castlegar’s Kinnaird Elementary says you’d be surprised what children can do when you get them outside.

Wayne Naka (pictured) is speaking after his school won $25,000 through Staples Canada’s Superpower Your School Contest.

The initiative recognizes schools for their green project.

Naka says the students are intimately involved.

Kinnaird Elementary replanted 40 mature trees after the school district removed numerous plants for a parent parking lot.

They also built shrub gardens, vegetable gardens, a wetlands pond.
