Nelson aquatic centre renos on hold

The Regional District of Central Kootenay has rejected both bids to renovate the Nelson and District Aquatic Centre which will not close May 1 as originally planned.

Chief administrator Stuart Horn says they’re not sure why the contractors’ bids were $1.2 million  or more over their estimated budget.

He says they’ll meet with their design team over the next couple of weeks.

The regional district says the rec commission is still committed to the project.

A budget of $4.9 million was approved by the RDCK in January.
