Kootenay unemployment rate stood at 7.2% in March

The unemployment rate in the Kootenays mirrors the national numbers.

According to Statistics Canada, 7.2 per cent of the labour force was out of work last month, up from six per cent in February

The national unemployment rate sits at 7.2 per cent as well while BC’s rate is 6.3 per cent.

The Kootenay numbers however are down from March of last year when 8.1 per cent were without work.

Approximately 73,000 people were employed in the East and West Kootenay last month.
