Hume Hotel replacing 1929 elevator

It’s had its ups and downs over the last 76 years but Nelson’s Hume Hotel is finally replacing its elevator.

General manager Ryan Martin says the old lift served them exceptionally well but the time has come to modernize.

Martin says while the new elevator will be a smoother ride guests might not otherwise notice the difference.

They’ll continue to use the same car and will have vintage buttons.

It will be out of service for six to eight weeks.
