Some RDCK Directors are not happy with the sudden and big increase in costs for the users of rural water systems.
All 21 systems managed by the RDCK now fall under one amalgamated cost umbrella and must pay for staff time and maintenance.
But Ymir director Hans Cunningham argues that’s illegal and each system actually has the right to set rates.
He argues there’s been no consultation explaining the big hike and says the Ymir system for example is well run and shouldn’t face such an increase.
But the RD says this is the most equitable long-term funding solution for all the water systems they manage across the district.
