Water system fee hikes fair:rural director

A local rural director says it’s only fair that users of RDCK managed water systems are now paying the full and true cost of their management.

There have been complaints from some directors that the fees have shot up by as much as 65% to cover staff time and maintenance.

But area I Director Andy Davidoff says in a lot of cases the systems weren’t paying enough.

There are 21 different community water systems managed by the RDCK.

In the past they were covered by the general rural budget meaning residents of other communities without an RDCK-managed system were effectively subsidizing those costs.

Davidoff notes in his area – like many others – residents bear the brunt of all costs for their water systems and the RDCK has a moratorium on acquiring any additional systems.
