New affordable rental proposal for Nelson

Another ambitious proposal for affordable rental accommodation in Nelson.

Pastor Jim Reimer with Kootenay Christian Fellowship wants to build a 3.5 storey multi-use development that would have 40 below-market units and retail space.

But he says it’s crucial he gets community buy-in and feedback.

The community unveil meeting is set for Tuesday evening at Our Daily Bread at 7pm.

The project would go next to the highway in the parking lot of the Our Daily Bread- SPCA- Bowling Alley building.

It would cost over $6 million and Reimer figures he’ll need $1.5 million in donations to make it happen because the rental rates he’d be seeking would never cover the costs.

A few years ago Reimer proposed a housing development for the old Savoy Hotel next door but that never got off the ground.
