RDCK explains water system rate hikes

RDCK staff say it’s not practical to break down overhead costs for water maintenance system-by-system.

The board has decided its 21 systems should collectively pay for the cost of staff time required to run them.

It means big hikes for some systems despite arguments they should only pay for the work they actually receive.

But Chief Administrator Stuart Horn suggests it wouldn’t be so simple to apportion individual costs.

Horn says they’ll spend the next while explaining the changes and rationale to users.
