Nelson home evacuated in chemical scare

A home in downtown Nelson was evacuated late Monday morning.

That’s after occupants reported feeling unwell.

Fire Chief Len MacCharles says they believe a highly corrosive and reactive substance may be stored on the property on the corner of Vernon and Cedar.

So they’re tackling things with a specialist Hazmat team.

The neighbours have been informed as well.

MacCharles said the safe removal of the product could take a few hours.
