Castlegar budget open house

Castlegar city council is encouraging residents to attend an open house Tuesday night to see how their tax dollars will be spent.

Members of the public can get a close look at the 2015 budget that proposes a 3.1% municipal tax increase or $56 extra dollars a year for residents.

Councillor Florio Vasilikakis says they want to know what home owners think from 4-30 till 7-30 pm.

Big budget items include major renovations to Columbia Avenue and a $125,000 off-leash dog park.

Heading into last November’s election Castlegar council was criticized by some members of the public for frivolous spending on certain community projects.
