A double-boost for Nelson’s outdoor skatepark.
Council has okayed two separate applications through the Columbia Basin Trust’s Community Initiative Grants.
One is for almost $5,000 to go towards a planned shaded area and storage facility. Rotary Daybreak’s Sheila Hart says the facility has proven hugely popular since it opened last year.
The shaded area will be a specially modified old shipping container but Hart says they need about $30,000 to get it all done because they have to follow the city’s strict engineering and construction requirements.
The second CBT grant sees money going towards the skatepark Ambassador Program featuring a person under the management of the Youth Centre playing a monitoring role at the facility.
