A letter to the Minister of Education from the Kootenay Lake school District opposing Bill 11 is only the beginning.
This from Board Chair Lenora Trenaman who believes the piece of legislation undermines the very foundation of public education in BC. She says there has been absolutely no consultation with trustees across the province so the province has failed to consider input from those closest to the children in the B.C classrooms.
Trenaman points out the Minister said they do not plan to withdraw the Bill and she anticipates it will pass through the legislature.
The province argues Bill 11 will reduce overhead costs – like admin – and establish a modern framework for teacher professional development.
Trenaman believes it will reduce administrative budgets and the appointment of a public administrator will threaten the independence of local governance.
