$2 bet ended in tragedy

A tragic outcome for a $2 bet.

The BC Coroner has released a report into the death of a Grand Forks man last summer.

53 year old Morey Lafreniere had been watching some teenagers jumping into the Kettle River from the Grand Forks railway bridge. They dared him to jump for $2.

He did so but immediately got into difficulty. Friends were unable to reach him and he was found unresponsive down river by emergency person 20 minutes later.

Lafreniere was known to be a poor swimmer. The coroner’s report found he’d consumed between two and four beers earlier.
