BC govt wins court ruling v teachers

A major legal blow for BC’s teachers.

They have lost a BC Court of Appeal ruling on their 13-year fight with the government over class size and composition.

The appeal judges rules 4-to-1 that the Province did not violate the charter when it brought in legislation that stripped those elements from their collective bargaining in 2002.

Two previous BC court rulings had gone the way of the BC Teacher’s Federation.

The long legal saga is unlikely to end with this ruling as both sides had indicated beforehand they would take this case all the way to the Canadian Supreme Court.

Here’s Jim Iker – the President of the BCTF.
