Public sturgeon release today

It’s the latest chapter Tuesday in ongoing efforts to bolster the local numbers of the endangered White Sturgeon.

The annual public release of juveniles goes at Trail’s Gyro Park from 3 pm till 5-30 pm.

Angus Glass with the Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program says they’ll continue recent efforts to raise juveniles in the hatchery using eggs and larvae from the wild.

Biologists figure about 25% of the 137,000 juvenile sturgeon released into the Columbia River the last 14 years have survived.
