Nelson could have done more:Commons project manager

The project manager for the multi-million dollar Nelson Commons project is delighted council has approved their affordable housing idea.

But Russell Precious isn’t happy they didn’t also waive connection fees for their three restricted resale units. The Kootenay Co-op and their primary lender will effectively subsidize the units by 25% and Precious figured the city could have done their bit for affordability.

But council figured they do not address Nelson’s most needy and should not qualify for the waived connection fees.

These units will always be sold at 25% below market price and get some families on modest income into home ownership.

The city will administer the buyer qualification process.
