Nelson’s turn-around attitude on downtown dogs

The city of Nelson is set to go from dog ban capital to super-accommodating in the space of just a few months.

The city, Chamber of Commerce and local tourism association have each added a hundred dollars to an initial donation and idea from local citizen Nelson Becker.

That’s to buy inexpensive dog leashes that can be branded and handed over to pet owners if necessary.

Becker is delighted the idea is happening because it’s a lot better than the alternative facing bylaw officers.

The city recently rescinded its long-time ban on dogs in the downtown.
