Nelson joins transit freeze criticism

The city of Nelson is joining the chorus of criticism to the Province’s three-year freeze on operational funding for transit.

Councillor Valerie Warmington – the city’s rep on the West Kootenay Transit Committee – says this crushes hopes for further expansion but also threatens existing service.

That’s because if one element can no longer be funded that can hurt the rest of our system.

The RDCK has already resolved to call on the Minister of Transport to reconsider the freeze.

Warmington adds the funding freeze also threatens gains made to get cars off the road and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
