Commons concept could inspire others:mayor

The mayor of Nelson figures other developers may take notice after council approved the “restricted resale” concept for the Nelson Commons project this week.

Deb Kozak says while every future development will be considered on its own merit the idea of the city administering three permanently discounted units could open up more opportunities.

In the past other developers have donated cash to the city’s Affordable Housing Fund which has helped with studies.

But she notes the Nelson Commons idea has actually put affordable housing units on the ground and that’s a good thing.
