Dr’s strenghten medical marijuana standards

A local physician says there’s a reason why there should be a treating relationship between a doctor and patient before medical marijuana is prescribed .

Dr Joel Kailia  – who is a GP specialist in pain and addictions in Nelson – is speaking following the issuing of stronger standards and guidelines by the College of Physicians and Surgeons in BC.

Other standards include generally not prescribing to anyone under 25 or who has a history of psychosis or who has cardiovascular disease.

One of the aims of the standards is to prevent hasty approval for prescriptions -sometime from doctors who do so via Skype.
