Dr fears clinic could eventually wreck neighborhood

A Nelson ER doctor maintains the proposed new clinic opposite the hospital is just too big.

Dr Trevor Janz was speaking after council gave overwhelming approval for the two-storey site.

Janz fears for the proponents to pay off a 21,000 sq ft building they’ll need many physicians renting the space in future decades and the influx of patients and traffic congestion would wreck the neighborhood.

He says Nelson doctors currently use only up to 700 square feet of office space each.

But the group of doctors behind the project say the modern,spacious clinic will be for eight doctors maximum and they’ll create 38 parking stalls which is more than the zoning stipulates.
