A Grand Forks City Councillor is feeling comfortable after seeking legal advice due to residents’ complaints regarding the City’s controversial water meter program.
Julia Butler was the target of public ridicule because of her opposition to the program.
Butler was accused of being in conflict of interest because she used to run a small landscaping business.
At her own expense, Butler hired a law firm who said the conflict of interest provisions of the Community Charter would not apply to her.
City Council has yet to decide what will happen to residents who don’t get a water meter installed and must still establish a universal rate.
