Affordable housing proposal for Castlegar

Affordable housing in Castlegar is bursting at the seams.

This from the Executive Director of the Kootenay Society for Community Living Kathleen Elias who asked City Council last night to donate a piece of land for a $1.5 million dollar so-called community care facility.

Elias explains the development would have 24/7 service on the top floor for individuals with disabilities and have three affordable housing units on the bottom floor.

The requested land is three lots on Eighth Avenue behind the Pioneer Arena.

If all goes to plan, the society would like to break ground in August.
