Castlegar’s yard waste is its residents’ treasure.
Public Works is giving away its so called “Black Gold” composting that they’ve collected from residents disposing their yard waste at the Community Complex.
City Councillor Kevin Chernoff says for the second straight year they’ll hand out two bags per vehicle at the Complex Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm.
Chernoff says the City uses a lot of the composting for municipal landscaping – saving taxpayers money from being spent on topsoil.
The give-away is part of the Garden and Nature Festival taking place in the City.
