Nelson continues to ponder biomass plant

The mayor of Nelson isn’t totally sold on the idea of a biomass district energy system.

Deb Kozak says council will look at options for a small wood waste power plant to heat several buildings.

But she adds the city already has clean, green power.

But she admits 50 years from now reduced water flows on our rivers could change the thinking.

A biomass plant would cost about $5 million but produce energy at 20 per cent of the cost of natural gas.
