GF councillor responds to move to oust her

A Grand Forks city councillor has been responding to a move to have her kicked off council.

Monday night the majority of council voted to take Julia Butler to the Supreme Court in an attempt to have her removed from council for a conflict of interest.

Butler remains an outspoken opponent of the universal water meter program since making that clear as a citizen and former business owner before running for office.

The city’s lawyers believe Butler -who had a yard care business – has a direct financial conflict of interest regarding matters related to water metering decisions.

But she contests that.

The city says no one can comment on the matter as it’s before the court but Butler says she’s talking because that’s her Canadian charter right.
