GF mayor will recuse himself on water discussions

The mayor of Grand Forks will not be getting into any personal legal battles as the water meter controversy rages on.

Frank Konrad has been identified by city lawyers as being in indirect conflict of interest over water discussions.

He has always refuted that and says he’ll rather walk away from any future discussions on the matter.

Konrad’s plumbing business once expressed an interest in bidding on the water meter project but he says any notion that’s a conflict of interest is a witch hunt and preposterous.

But Konrad says the whole situation is preventing him from doing his job as mayor and he’s repeated his concern it’s tarnishing Grand Forks’ reputation.

 

Meanwhile city councillor Julia Butler is pondering her legal options after council voted to go to the Supreme Court to have her removed from council for a direct conflict of interest on the water metering issue.

She refutes that.
