It’s not unusual to see grizzly bears along highway three outside Castlegar but that doesn’t make it okay for drivers to pull over and take pictures.
So says local Wildsafe BC co-ordinator Jenny Wallace after numerous reports this month of a grizzly and at least two cubs coming on to the road.
Wallace says it’s normal for the animals to look for the first vegetation along the highway but there is a concern they will become habituated.
Wallace also points out there have been many issues with black bears inside the community this Spring.
She adds they’ve already destroyed the same number of bears this year as in all 2014.
