Air Canada waiting on Nav Canada re CGR airport

Air Canada says they also want improved reliability at Castlegar’s airport but it’s not in their hands.

VP of Industry and Government Affairs Derek Vanstone is speaking after Kootenay MPs and local business leaders called on them to commit to using the new Q 400 plane in the winter time.

It can be equipped to handle Nav Canada’s new navigational approach system.

But he says they’re still waiting for that.

Vanstone says they’ve heard no time frame from Nav Canada.

The system also has limitations – it lowers landing ceilings in poor weather but does not necessarily improve take-off scenarios
