Hospital board calls for transit re-think

The provincial government’s three-year funding freeze on transit has major implications for rural health care.

That’s the message from the West Kootenay Boundary Hospital Board in deciding to join the chorus of calls to the ministry for a re-think.

Chair Marguerite Rotvold says it’s not just a case of getting rural patients to specialist appointments.

It’s also about the basics.

Municipalities and regional districts are calling on the province not to freeze funding because that may lead to bus routes being cut which will hinder access to health care.
