The newly announced federal grants celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday can kick start the big reno to the Nelson Civic Theatre.
The non-profit society is asking council to support the $500,000 grant application and match that to go towards a first floor common concourse. This additional would cost about $1.5 million.
It would link the various spaces in the city-owned building becoming a multi screen and digital conference centre.
Society President Marilyn Mint explains.
The society is still confident it can fund raise about $1.3 million for a second movie screen. A third screen is in longer term plans.
Council is expected to approve the grant application next week.
