Nelson will update its Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
It was one of BC’s first communities to have one done seven years ago to deal with fuel mitigation on its interface with the forest.
Several high risk areas have since been thinned out but Fire Chief Len MacCharles says an update makes sense.
City staff say the thinning out of forest initially met with mild resistance but once the work was completed there was great praise.
Half the $31,000 cost for the updated plan is covered by the Union of BC Municipalities.
