CGR to promote camas plant’s special significance

It is important for Castlegar City Council to show respect to local indigenous cultures.

This from Councillor Deb McIntosh following a presentation from the Kootenay Native Plant Society.

The society is requesting the city designate a camas plant conservation and restoration area in Millennium Park.

McIntosh says the more Council hears from them the more of an understanding they get of the plant’s significance to the area.

The society suggested it’s a real treasure to have an abundance of the ancient plant locally.

Castlegar is the only place in B.C’s Interior that has camas – which has been around for thousands of years.
